App privacy
For the Rogeha Deutsch C1 app. Last updated 18 October 2026. The website has its own policy on the Privacy page.
Rogeha Deutsch C1 helps you practise German from level B2 to C1 on Windows. An AI service of your choice writes the exercises and checks your answers, and you can type, dictate or have text read aloud. It is made by Rogeha Studio. It has no account and no server of ours: your practice data stays on your PC, and the only connections it makes go to the services you set up in the app's Settings, with your own keys, and to this website when you open the feature overview.
Who is responsible
- Responsible
- Rogeha Studio
- support@rogehastudio.com
For what an AI provider or Microsoft does with data you send them, that company is responsible under its own terms; see What leaves the PC.
What the app stores, on your PC
Everything the app keeps stays on the PC, in its own folder and in a daily backup:
- the exercises the AI wrote for you, with their goals, hints and model answers;
- your answers, typed or dictated, with the verdict, the corrections and the explanations, and when you gave them. These feed the review schedule and the progress page;
- your settings: the window language, the AI provider and model, the address of a compatible server if you entered one, the voice and dictation options, and this month's usage counts behind the cost and Azure figures in Settings;
- your API keys for the AI providers and for Azure AI Speech, encrypted with Windows for your Windows account, so another account on the PC cannot read them;
- the browser profile of the progress page, which shows only data from this folder, and from version 2.2 of the feature overview, which keeps this website's pages in its cache.
Once a day the app also saves the exercises, your answers and the settings as a zip file in your Documents folder, under Rogeha Deutsch C1\Backups, keeping the 14 newest. The API keys in it stay encrypted for your Windows account and cannot be read anywhere else. In Settings you can export a backup to another place and import one. If OneDrive or another service syncs your Documents folder, it copies the backups too, under your account with that service.
Dictation recordings are kept in memory only, never saved to a file, and are gone once the text is in the answer box. If your user folder is backed up to the cloud by a Windows feature you turned on, the app's folder may be backed up with it.
What leaves the PC
Only what is needed for the feature you use, sent directly from your PC to the service you chose, under your own key and account with that service. Rogeha Studio receives none of it.
To your AI provider
You choose one in Settings: Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI, Google (Gemini), or another server with an OpenAI-compatible interface whose address you enter. To write exercises, the app sends the topic and the texts of up to 40 earlier exercises on it, so it does not repeat them. To check an answer, it sends the exercise, its goal and model answers, and your answer. It does not send your name, your settings or your other answers. If the provider answers that it is overloaded, the app sends the same request again, at most twice, a few seconds apart.
What the provider does with this, and for how long it keeps it, is set by its terms for API use:
- Anthropic privacy policy
- OpenAI privacy policy
- Gemini API terms. Google treats free and paid use differently: on the free tier, outside the EEA, Switzerland and the UK, Google may use what you send to improve its products, and people may read it. In the EEA, Switzerland and the UK the stricter paid terms apply to free use too.
- For a compatible server, the terms of whoever runs it. A server on your own PC or network keeps everything there.
Your answers are your own practice sentences. We suggest not writing personal details about yourself or others into them.
To Microsoft, if you use Azure AI Speech
Azure is optional and off until you enter a Speech key and region in Settings.
- Natural voices: the text to be read aloud (an exercise, a correction or text you selected) goes to the Azure region you entered, and the audio comes back.
- Dictation: when you press Speak, the app streams your microphone to Azure while you speak, until you press it again (at most three minutes), and the text comes back as you talk. If the live connection drops, the recording is sent when you stop instead, in pieces of under a minute.
The Microsoft Privacy Statement and the terms of your Azure account apply.
To rogehastudio.com, if you open the feature overview
From version 2.2, Feature overview in the ☰ menu loads Rogeha Deutsch C1's page from this website in a window of the app, only when you open it. Like any visit to a website, the request reaches the website's host with your IP address and the page asked for; the website's privacy policy says what happens to it. Nothing from your practice goes with it, and the page sets no cookies. Links to rogehastudio.com stay in that window; any other link opens in its usual app.
Windows features the app uses
- Windows voice typing, used for dictation when no Azure key is set. It is part of Windows, and your Windows speech and privacy settings decide whether it works on the PC or uses Microsoft's online service.
- The Windows voice reads aloud on the PC; nothing leaves it.
Nothing else
No advertising, no analytics, no crash reporting, and nothing sold or passed on. Two links in the app's About window open other programs: the support address starts a new email in your mail app, which is sent only if you send it, and the privacy and Impressum links open this website in your browser. If you install the app from the Microsoft Store, Microsoft's own privacy statement applies to the Store and to the installation.
What the app can see and do
- The microphone, only while you dictate: from your press on Speak until you stop. Windows shows when the microphone is in use, and you can block it in Windows Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone.
- The keyboard language, only for Windows voice typing: it switches to German (Germany) so voice typing listens in German, and back to your own language when you check the answer, move on or leave the answer box.
- The internet, only to reach the services above and, for the feature overview, this website.
How long data is kept
- On your PC: exercises, answers and settings until you uninstall the app or delete its folder; keys until you clear them in Settings.
- Backups in your Documents folder: the 14 newest, one for each day you use the app; older ones are deleted as new ones are made. They stay after you uninstall the app, so that a reinstall or a new PC can take your progress over.
- Dictation recordings: in memory only, until the text is back.
- At an AI provider or Microsoft: as their terms say.
Deleting your data
Uninstalling the app installed from the Microsoft Store removes its folder with your exercises, answers, settings and keys. The backups in your Documents folder stay, on purpose: delete the folder Rogeha Deutsch C1 in Documents to remove them, and from OneDrive too if it syncs that folder. To clear a key without uninstalling, empty its field in Settings and save; it stays encrypted in the backups of earlier days until they are replaced. Data you sent to an AI provider or to Microsoft is deleted under their terms; ask them for it. We hold no data about you, so there is nothing to delete on our side.
Your rights
You can ask what personal data about you is processed, and have it corrected or deleted. Write to support@rogehastudio.com. For data held by an AI provider or Microsoft, turn to them. You can also turn to the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).
Children
The app is meant for adults preparing for C1 German exams, and is not directed at children. AI providers set their own minimum ages for their keys. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. The current version is always at this address.
